AIR FOOTBALL "WORLD CUP DAY"

World Cup fever gripped 172 players who took part in our World cup

5-a-side tournament at Fairlop powerleague on Thursday 10th June,

many more supported or cheered on friends and family.

The event was twinned with our AIR Awards day where we handed

out 14 awards to players who had recently succeeded in finding jobs

or achieved personal outcomes such as quitting drugs or moving away

from crime.

19 teams took part in a superb atmosphere... With the carnival feel

around the venue, many supporting their favoured nations it was a

day to remember !!
The World Cup was won by Cameroon (Newham) who beat Serbia

(Redbridge) 4-1 in the final.
The World Plate was won by Nigeria ( Barking & Dagenham) who beat

Algeria (Newham) 2-1.

AIR teams took part from Barking & Dagenham, Redbridge, Barnet and

Newham and from projects across London, Essex and even as far

as Liverpool where Everton FC sent a team, there were also teams

from local business's Fitness first and HSBC.

Live music was performed from "King Junior" Samba style, who performed

his World cup song Boom Boom World Cup...which caused a real buzz

among players who staged a dance off competition showcasing some

quality moves !!
A Free BBQ kept everyone smiling.

Project Co-ordinator Colm Whitty said
"It was a great chance for everyone to get involved and have a bit of fun.

Its all about supporting our players to improve themselves and bringing

people together.

The tournament and awards are a chance for us to say well done to our

players who are making excellent personal and community progress......

We just hope England can do better than what they did in our tournament

where they could only reach the quarter finals".

THE GIRLS ARE BACK IN TOWN PDF Print E-mail

Following the huge amount of interest we have had in our new ladies team,

we are now pleased to announce we have a women’s only training session

at Goodmayes 2-4pm every Wednesday, supported by Coach Jerry Jairette.

The new team, Air Football Ladies...

have joined the Essex FA Female 7’s League at Hainault Power League,

which takes place on the last Friday Evening of each month.

There are currently 12 women’s teams

from across Essex playing in the league.

Our first tournament was on 26th March and Michelle (Captain),

Stacy, Lucy, Leanne, Mog, Hazel, Joanne

and Alex turned out to represent Air Football.

Marie came to watch, but by match 3

had been to the changing rooms and was on the pitch.

For complete newcomers we did respectably,

winning two out of seven matches.

We were also given the ‘Fair Play’ play award by the referees,

so we all came away with medals.

Most importantly, even when we were 1-0 down in our final match,

everyone on the pitch was smiling!

We played our second tournament on 30th April,

with Stacy taking the Captain’s role after a stunning performance

the previous month.

Michelle, Marie, Lucy, Leanne, Mog, Mell,

Sane and Jane also took to the field.

We had the support of Coach Jerry,

who provided training and tactical advice.

We had one win, a draw and lost three, but definitely performed

better as our win was against a team we lost to the previous month.

Again everyone enjoyed themselves and despite being soaking wet

Sane had the biggest grin you have ever seen by the end of the night.

Newcomer Mell said “It was the most fun I’ve had ever!”
