Mayor kicking off the game

Hope you enjoyed your weekend......

We did down at Ilford FC, Cricklefields where we were treated to a fine day with nice weather and top class performances from Nicole Jane, Spurlge, Addictive Girls, Little Ghost, Serotonin as well DJ's Mick Mesa & Scott Morris and KD Productions. There was entertainment for the children from Candi Girls, Magic Shaun, funfair rides and bouncy castles wow........

The main event lived up to its billing 'The Big One'. The game was played at a fanstic level throughout with the AIR Football side made up of Players & Coaches winning 6-2 in 90mins.

The first goal was scored in 20seconds after a through ball by Colm caught the Celebrity defence out for Derek to nip in and chip the keeper, the crowd cheered and the game was set up.. The Celebrity team re-organised and played some excellent football and equalised through Dwayne Henry (dream team) when a corner was only half cleared for him to smash back in. The Celebrity teams confidence was back and they took the lead when Helio (ex benfica) cut in from the right on 20mins and unleashed a beauty into the bottom left hand corner that keeper Lennie could only get his finger tips to, 2-1 and time to dig deep as the Celebrity team with a strong wind in their favour began knocking long balls at every opportunity. The back four of Tony, Colm, Berti and Ray worked hard and had answers for everything the Celebrity team gave them with Alfie, Jace (nicole jane) Helio playing at the front in a 4-3-3.

Air Football started to play the ball to feet and it wasn't long before they got back on level terms through Derek who scored a top individual goal. Leon began to link up with the midfield well, coming short to receive and with Derek and Mark's trickery they began to open up the Celebrity defence at will.

Celebrating mark's goalLennie saved a penalty and when Air Football were awarded a free kick 25 yards out, Mark stepped up and hit it beautifully in to the top left hand corner, 3-2. Leon then sent the team 4-2 up before half time with a solo effort beating four players in the box after great work at the back from Colm who tidyed up an attack to set him up on the left.

The second half started much as the first ended with AIR Football playing for each other and the midfielders, Gavin, Lee & Jerry eating everything up and not allowing their opponents time on the ball. The fifth goal arrived when Jerry beat Ziggy (big brother) in the area and was taken down. He then stepped up to beat the keeper with a very good penalty.

The Celebrity side changed about and with Colin McMillan (ex WBO World Champion) going up front looked like they may get back into the game but AIR Football stepped up again and were very organised at the back. The last 15mins was the time to bring the subs into the match with Chris coming on for Lennie in goal and David, Taylor and Aaron coming on to test the Celebrities. The final goal of the game was scored in the final few minutes when Derek scored his hat-trick after beating the keeper 1 on 1.

Man of the match was Leon.

AIR Football completed their warm up today with a 3-2 win against a very tough side made up of Ex St Lucian National players who played a high level of football in this country and abroad.

The game played at Fairlop Powerleague was a much needed exercise for the team in preparation for their Celebrity game at Ilford FC next Sunday 10th August (kick off 3pm). Leon put the team ahead to lead 1-0 at the break with a solo effort that had been on the cards as he tested the defence with his silky & direct play. The second half started with their opponents creating some very good chances and scoring through two team mistakes to take the lead 2-1. AIR Football then started to play some excellent football and with crisp passing and quick link up play scored through Gavin who finished off a sharp attack to tap home from 5 yards. Mark & Derek were both having alot of joy up front and it wasnt long before the third and winning goal game, great work between the midfielders Lee and Michael ended with Michael splitting open the St Lucian defence to hammer home an unstoppable shot that rounded off an exciting few weeks of football. After drawing 3-3 last week in Becton against the West Ham FC kickz team and beating their Community side the week before 7-4 AIR Football can go into the Celebrity game with confidence and a belief that they are ready to take on the Celebrity 3 Lions challenge.

Entry to the game is FREE and those in attendance will also be treated to music ranging from RnB to Rock, Hip hop to Pop and a very exciting girl group. Also on the day there will be activities for children including Athletics, Football (NETBUSTERS)and a bouncy castle, face painting and Magic Man, with information stalls from HSBC, FITNESS FIRST, BOOTS, MET POLICE and more this will a be a day out the whole family can enjoy........

 Good luck to the team.

How important is it to have a bank account ???

Over the past 14 months AIR Football has been working closly with HSBC Bank to help men & women in Redbridge and Newham access bank accounts, bank services and to plan for the future with money saving tips.

Everyone today needs a bank account, wheather you are having your wages paid in, benefits from Social security, want to pay bills, set up direct debits, standing orders and/or save for a rainy day you need the help and support of a bank account.

Players and members of AIR Football have been given lots of help from the leading bank with regular advice/support sessions about the services available.

Jennie Whiteford branch manager in Ilford says "We fully support the work AIR Football is doing in our community and understand the importance of every person having access to their own bank account, this month alone we have opened 13 bank accounts in Redbridge & Newham, this will support those in working towards a brighter future".

HSBC Bank will have a stall at the up coming Celebrity event being held at ILFORD FC on Sunday August 10th to further support those in the community with information on the services they provide.
